Taraba State House Of Assembly Gets New Speaker

The members-elect of the 8th Taraba State House of Assembly were yesterday inaugurated in Jalingo to commence legislative work.

The inauguration witnessed the emergence of a new speaker and deputy speaker for the House.

Mr. Abel Peter Diah, member representing Mbamgar Constituency, was elected as the speaker while Mohammed Danladi Gwompo from Yorro Constituency was elected as the House deputy speaker.

The clerk of the House, Ismaila Tentason Ukwen, had earlier read a letter of proclamation from the state governor, Darius Ishaku, bringing the House to life in line with the provisions of Section 105 (3) of the 1999 Constitution (as amended).

Joseph Albasu Kunini, member representing Lau constituency, had nominated Diah for the speakership position and it was seconded by Hosea Ibi, member representing Takum 1.
The speaker upon his swearing-in announced Joseph Albasu Kunini, Lau Constituency, as the House majority leader.

In his acceptance speech, the new speaker thanked the House for his election and promised to run its affairs in an open, transparent and accountable manner.

He reminded the inaugurated members that party politicking is over and it is now time to deliver the dividends of democracy to the constituents as promised during their campaigns.
