Anxiety As Gunmen Kidnap Lawmaker-Elect’s Aide, Lawyer In Abia

Kidnappers held sway in Aba, Abia State last weekend as they abducted an aide to the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) Aba North and Aba South House of Assembly member-elect, Osy Prestige, Chinedu Ikenga and an Aba-based lawyer identified as O. O. Anya.
Ikenga was reportedly seized on Friday, opposite Grail Message Centre, Opobo Road, Ogbor Hill at about 9pm. He was said to be returning to his house after the day’s business.
Anya, a senior lawyer and indigene of Bende Local Government Area, was kidnapped at Abayi on the outskirts of the commercial city.
Sources said the gunmen trailed the APGA chieftain, dragged him out of his vehicle, riddled the car with bullets before taking him to a yet-to-be identified location.
While the gunmen are yet to establish contact with the family of the lawmaker’s aide, some of the party supporters said it was politically motivated.
A source said Ikenga, a contractor, was returning from Port Harcourt in Rivers State not knowing that the gunmen had laid ambush for him. On getting to the Grail Message Centre, the gunmen, who operated in a Sport Utility Vehicle (SUV), double-crossed his car and whisked him away to an unknown destination.
The source said the matter had been reported at a Police Station in the area the crime was committed.
Information about Anya’s abduction was still sketchy as at press time, it was not yet known whether the hoodlums have contacted both families.
