'Nekede Residents Beg Imo Governor' Rescue Us

The seven villages of Nekede ancient kingdom in Owerri West Local Government Area of Imo State has been cut off by erosion.
The only link road between the villages and Owerri municipal is currently not in good condition for vehicular traffic due to the damage done by flood.
The situation has caused untold hardship as the residents find it pretty difficult to get out from their abode to do business.
Some of the villagers, who spoke to Southern City News on Saturday, blamed the state government led by Owelle Rochas Okorocha for their plight. They claimed the state governor had on several occasions assured them he would rehabilitate the road after elections.
They said it was unfortunate Okorocha abandoned them to their fate despite their contributions to his re-election.
A resident, who gave his name as Mr. Okey Isika, told Southern City News they were still waiting for Okorocha to come to their rescue.
“You can see the state of our road; it is so bad now that it has cut us off from the rest of the state. Governor Okorocha should know that we are part of the state and the people under him.
“We are now trapped and we need serious and immediate intervention. His mantra is ‘Rescue Mission’; we need to be rescued now,” Isika added.
When our correspondent visited the site, there was a gridlock on the road.
Also, the Nekede Liaison Officer, Chidieze Nkemakolam, expressed worry over the state of the only road leading to Nekede ancient kingdom.
Nkemakolam said, “The governor, on several occasions, had promised that he would repair the road. Do you know that he has never shown his face on the road till now?”
He, however, said he was hopeful there would be a turnaround of the situation, saying the Secretary to the Government of the State, Jude Ejiogu, had promised to bring about an alternative road to reduce the suffering of the people.
