Hired Cook Poisons Whole Family In Lekki

The police in Lagos State have arrested two domestic staff who poisoned their boss, her husband and two security guards in Lekki Phase 1 area of the state with the intention of robbing them.
The suspects were on Tuesday afternoon paraded before newsmen by the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Kayode Aderanti, who advised people to be cautious of who they employ as domestic staff.
It was gathered that the arrest of the suspects was sequel to a petition written by the employer of the suspects, Omowunmi Fadojutimi, a resident of Lekki Phase I.
The arrested suspects were identified by the petitioner as Victor Hounkpe and David Amusu.
The woman had, in her petition, accused the suspects of conspiracy and attempt to murder her and her husband as well as two security guards.
She alleged that she engaged the services of Hounkpe as a domestic cook through Amusu who also was at a time her cook.
According to Aderanti, “the petitioner further alleged that on April 22, at about 1700 hours, Victor Hounkpe (the cook) was instructed to prepare vegetable soup for dinner.
“After the dinner, the husband of the complainant developed severe stomach ache and collapsed. The complainant immediately rushed the husband to a nearby hospital. A few moments later, she also started having severe pain.
“She became unconscious at the gate of the hospital and both husband and wife were admitted for medical attention.”
The commissioner added: “shortly after, two of the security guards of the woman who also ate of the dinner were brought in unconscious to the same hospital. This brings the total number of victims to four.
“It was discovered that shortly after serving the dinner, Hounkpe left the house. Efforts to arrest him proved abortive until he was eventually arrested through diligent investigation and deployment of advanced technology,” the commissioner said.
Hounkpe,  later confessed that he actually put some substances in the food that he served, adding that it was Amusu who gave him the substance.
He also added that their intention was to gain access into the rooms in the house and steal the woman’s belongings after they might have passed out after eating the meal,
Tribune reports.
