A suicide bomb attack has targeted a police building in the Chadian capital N'Djamena, officials say.
Some witnesses say they heard multiple explosions, and there are unconfirmed reports of casualties.
It is not clear who carried out the attack, but Nigeria's Islamist group Boko Haram will be suspected, a BBC correspondent says.
A regional task force to tackle Boko Haram is being set up in the city - never previously targeted by the group.
Chad has sent troops into neighbouring Nigeria to tackle the group, which often carries out suicide attacks.
Boko Haram gunmen have previously been active around Lake Chad close to the Nigerian border, reports the BBC's Will Ross from Lagos.
Video statements from the Islamist group have previously criticised and taunted the Chadian President Idriss Deby.
