The Federal Secretariat in Abuja, which houses major government offices, is currently on fire. The inferno is said to have started from the sixth floor of the building, where the Federal Ministry of Education is located, and has now reportedly spread to the seventh and eight floors.
The fire, according to eye-witnesses, was first noticed on the ninth floor of the building a few minutes past 2p.m.
the building, which lies beside the federal secretariat, fire trucks had swooped on the area with firemen battling to put out the inferno.
Civil servants as well as visitors to the busy building, which houses some commercial banks, were in a state of confusion.
The cause of the fire could not be immediately ascertained.
