15 killed In Jos, Kaduna Attacks

The killings in Plateau and Kaduna States by unidentified gunmen continued yesterday as no fewer than 10 people were feared killed when suspected Fulani gunmen stormed Shurun village in Mangu local government area of Plateau State, while five people were killed   in Sanga local government area of Kaduna State, including a senior police officer in Ambe village.
This is even as the anti-bomb squad of the Plateau State police command on Friday defused a bomb close to the resident of a prominent Islamic scholar, Sheik Yahaya Jingir in Jos.

LEADERSHIP Weekend learnt that the Islamic scholar and his followers who were celebrating the Eid-el-Maulud may have been the target of the bomb, as the attackers knew the vicinity would be a beehive of activities as a result of the festival.
The Special Task Force media officer, Captain Iweka Ikedichi who confirmed the incident to our correspondent said the bomb was planted in the area on Thursday ahead of the festival but was discovered later that same night.
According to him, immediately it was discovered the entire vicinity was cordoned off and men of the state’s anti-bomb squad defused the bomb on Friday.
He therefore enjoined people of the state to be extra vigilant and report any suspicious object or movement to the security agencies for prompt action.
Meanwhile the killings in Sanga created tension when natives of Numana chiefdom took to the streets to protest the killings of their kinsmen by unknown gunmen in the early hours of yesterday.
Our correspondent gathered that the people from Ambe village blocked the busy Jos-Kafanchan-Akwanga road to protest what they called “continuous killings of our people without government intervention.”
The situation degenerated when some Muslims resident in Gwantu, the headquarters of Sanga local government attacked the protesters.
It took the intervention of soldiers as well as officials of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) and Jama’atu Nasril Islam (JNI) to bring normalcy to the already tense Gwantu town.
