Former Deputy Speaker Loses PDP Senatorial Primary

Former Deputy Speaker in the House of Representatives, Chief Chibudom Nwuche, was on Tuesday, defeated by an ex-Commissioner for Finance, Mr. Osinakachi Ideozu, in the senatorial primary of the Peoples Democratic Party for Rivers West District.
While Ideozu got 326 votes to pick the sole ticket and run for the senatorial election in 2015, Nwuche came a distant second with 44 votes.

Another aspirants, Mr. Willy Pepple got one vote while David Briggs had earlier withdrawn from the race.
Declaring Ideozu the winner of the primary election, the returning officer, Prof. Blessing Didie, said eight votes were voided.
It will be recalled that the election, which was initially held on Sunday at the Government Technical College in Ahoada East Local Government Area, was disrupted by suspected political thugs.
However, Nwuche, who was apparently dissatisfied with the conduct of the primary, walked out of the State PDP Secretariat, venue of the primary.
The former deputy speaker cited irregularities and particularly the intimidation of delegates through the numbering of the ballot papers and the provision of many ballot boxes instead of one.
Nwuche explained that the leadership of the party deliberately decided to rig the election against him and in favour of an unpopular aspirant.
