Traders Decry Delay In Relocating Ikeja Computer Village

Traders in Ikeja Computer Village, which is a  market for all kinds of computers, electronics, mobile phones and their accessories, have decried the delay in  the relocation of the busy market by the Lagos State government after many promises.

"We are surprised and worried that by now, there are no signs of developing the new site allotted to us by the state government, despite the promises it made to us last year that it had already opened discussions with the developer that was contracted by the state to commence work at site last year. Or could it be that the state is playing politics with a viable market that is generating so much money for the state and the local government where it is currently located?" a computer dealer in the market, Mr. Uche Azubuike  said while narrating the challenges of the market to THISDAY.
According to him,  the Computer and Allied Products Dealers Association of Nigeria (CAPDAN), which is the umbrella association for traders in the market,  had last year informed them that the Lagos State government was ready to develop the Katangowa market in Abule Egba area of Lagos.
He said the government told the traders that  it had contracted the job to a developer. He however, noted that  nothing  has been done on the land, where part of the space is currently been occupied by market men and women who deal on petty trading and foodstuff.
Confirming the situation, the outgoing Public Relations Officer of CAPDAN, Mr. Godwin Enemor, expressed worries about the manner at which the state government is handling the issue. According to him, the state is not serious at developing the place, and does not want the traders to develop the place either.
