Senate: I’m Still In The Race – Suswam

Benue State governor, Gabriel Suswam, has said that he was not ordered to withdraw from the senatorial race and no automatic ticket was granted to the incumbent senator from Benue North East, contrary to the widely peddled rumours, saying he is still running with every intent to win.
Suswam stated this during a thanksgiving mass at St. Ann’s Catholic Church, Adikpo, Kwande local government area of the state. He described the widely publicised media reports as fake, adding that nothing can stop him from running the race.

“There are speculations and media reports that the president held a meeting with us and ordered me to withdraw from the race and that the incumbent was given automatic ticket; that is a total lie; it is completely fake. You people should not be deceived because I am fully in the race and you people are the ones clamouring to vote for me overwhelmingly,” Suswam stated.
He said the ruling PDP is a viable party, committed to ensuring rapid development as evidenced by the monumental achievements of his administration, stating that the party will not split but remain united to foster progress in the country.
Commenting on the contentions issue of a successive governorship candidate, Suswam said he has provided a level playing field for all aspirants to seek the mandate, noting that he alone as governor cannot anoint a candidate.
He stated that he can only impose a candidate after the electorates including the traditional institution, have unanimously and amicably too, settled for a particular aspirant who they believe will rule the state in a manner that is in accordance with the wishes of the generality of the people.
