Onitsha Cleric Empowers Church Members

It was a day of jubilation for beneficiaries, families and friends of ten lucky recepients of an empowerment programme initiated by a Catholic cleric and parish priest of St. Theresa’s Catholic Church, Obosi, Anambra State.

The ceremony which took place at the church’s premises was in commemoration of the silver jubilee ordination of the parish priest, the Very Rev. Fr. John Emeka Okeke.
Okeke handed over the cheques of N50,000 to each of the lucky ten beneficiaries and said that the gesture was to encourage parishioners to continue to put in their best for the benefit of the parish.
Fr. Okeke, who narrated the criteria used in selecting the beneficiaries, reminded other parishioners that the aim was to encourage the less- privileged, active members of the parish to use the token amount to set-up a small business, which would also benefit their entire.

The cleric, who reminded Christians to use their privileged positions to enhance the living condition of the people, however, disclosed that he decided to replicate the directive given by the Catholic pontiff, Pope Francis that the church should also be at the fore front of empowering their faithful out of hunger and poverty.
