About 3,500 corps members had been empowered while 4,000 have been trained under the NYSC/MDG’s War Against Poverty (WAP) programme since the commencement of the exercise six years ago.
Director General, National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Brigadier General Johnson Olawumi, dropped the hint while declaring open the War Against Poverty (WAP) programme.
The programme was organised by the NYSC in partnership with the Millennium Development Goals (MDG) for the 2014 Batch ‘C’ Corps members at the NYSC Orientation Camp, Kubwa, Abuja.
The NYSC boss noted that the WAP programme seeks to eradicate extreme poverty and hunger, generate employment, create wealth, boost agricultural productivity, and encourage self-reliance and entrepreneurship development.
He challenged the 4,000 participants to take the training seriously, as they make up their mind to succeed in their various choices of agro-enterprises.
Olawumi observed that there has been improvement in the credibility of elections in the country with the participation of corps members in the process when compared to the previous editions.
The DG expressed optimism that no corps member would be lost through death at the end of the elections, as measures had, and are still being put in place to guarantee their safety.
