Best Collabos Of 2014

As 2014 draws to a close, we look back at collaborations that hit the airwaves during the year.  ANTHONY ADA ABRAHAM and SAMUEL ABULUDE profile the biggest musical collaborations of 2014, with the help of some prominent DJs and presenters.
Musical collaborations the world over are designed to bring balance and richer song recording to music fans. The blend of musical dexterity from two or more artistes from the same or different backgrounds has made collabos what they are today. The Nigerian Hiphop music scene is influenced by the American pop culture and with collaborations being a major trend in the industry, Nigerian artistes have taken a cue.

The 2013 collabos that shone include Baby Mi Da- Victor Olaiya ft Tuface Idibia; Jaiyejaiye- Wizkid Ft Femi Kuti; Eminado- Tiwa Savage ft Don Jazzy and Pull Over- Kcee ft Wizkid, which won the Channel O Music award for duo, group or featuring.
Since the trends in the music industry during 2013 led to the buzz and hype of musicians and the hit songs of 2014, it can be said that the music scene is heading for greater heights in 2015, as we see more songs and collaborations among artistes.
Artistes like Davido, Wizkid, D’banj, J Martins, Tiwa Savage, Patoranking and Don Jazzy, were some of those that had lots of collaboration that shook the music scene this outgoing year.

2014 Best Collabo Songs
DJ Topherz is one of Abuja’s best DJs and an in-house DJ for Rhythm FM who runs Topherz Gang Ent.
He believes that the 2014 collaborations saw the old and new coming together to do one of the greatest things in the music industry.
Davido’s most anticipated new single, Tchelete ft Mafikizolo, hit the airwaves with the already established artistes breaking grounds within and outside the shores of the nation.
The undisputed man of the year also released the video for his previously dropped hot joint, Naughty featuring Ivory Coast’s very own DJ Arafat. Directed by Sesan, it has a fitting loud party theme with an army of sexy ladies bursting with energy to match the thumping rhythm of the audio, with Davido and DJ Arafat thrown right smack in the middle of it all. It is unarguably one of the best collaborations of the year.

Daddy Mi- Reminisce ft Davido
The song established indigenous rapper, Reminisce on the music scene. Having being on the sidelines in the rap genre dominated by OLAMIDE, Reminisce has burst onto the scene with his own flair and is garnering accolades.
Daddy Mi by the Samsung brand ambassador, Reminisce, featuring award winning and 2014 trailblazer, Davido, is the best collabo of the year, according to DJ Mewsic. his reason being that other collaborations had not-so-good lyrics that did not have mass appeal.
“I love Daddy Mi by Reminisce ft Davido because it is a good song with a good video- a live performance shooting. Daddy Mi talks about our fathers and praises them for being mentors and guides of one’s destiny. I like it because it has better lyrics of love and admiration for one’s father; cleaner than other collabos,” says the Disc Jockey DJ Mewsic.

Emergency- Wizzy Pro ft Skales, Patorankin and Runtown
DJ mewsic’s second favourite collabo is the wave making Emergency. The song is not just a club banger but interestingly got the Best Collabo at HEADIES 2014. Owned by Wizzy Pro, Emergency brought one of the best young singers into the mix. The quartet of Skales, Patoranking , Runtown and Wizzy Pro gave a wonderful live performance of the song at the award ceremony.

Girlie O Remix- Patorankin ft Tiwa Savage
Based on massive approval and popular voting, Patoranking’s Girlie O remix was one of the songs that fetched more than one award notably the Best Reggae/Dance Hall Song at the HEADIES held last Sunday. The song did it for Patoranking in 2014 and bringing the talented diva, Tiwa Savage to endorse the song in a remix ensured that Girlie O is one of the hit songs and best collabos of 2014.

Double Wahala Remix- OritseFemi ft D’Banj
Off the success of his hit song, Double Wahala, the street singer possessing a unique voice texture released its video weeks ago.
The song, featuring Banga Lee master, D’Banj, has made OritseFemi richer and more popular. He has won not less than four awards in 2014. The remix video, before and after its official release, is a testament to the success of a singer who was on the sidelines for so long and is now in the spotlight; touring, doing shows and also being employed to add his voice to musical collaborations. Watch out for Oritse Femi in bigger collabos.

Shake Your Bumbum Remix- Timaya ft Sean Paul
Timaya’s music has stood the test of time. His collabo with Jamaican reggae star, Sean Paul is a club banger. Although controversial because of its risqué nature, no DJ could put Timaya’s remix, Shake Your Bumbum, aside. Apart from its international collaborative effort, the melody is tight and loved by many.
Other great collabos of 2014 include Pass You By- Black Magic ft Oritse Femi; Oya Now- Joe El ft Oritse Femi; Dorobucci- Mavins Crew and dozens of others.
