Zimbabwe Demands Extradition Of US Killer Of Prized Lion

The controversy over the killing of Zimbabwe’s iconic Cecil the lion took a new twist on Friday as a government official accused the American dentist who committed the crime of harbouring intentions of tarnishing the already frosty relations between Harare and Washington. As outrage grew over the killing of Cecil the lion, Zimbabwe’s Environment Minister Oppah Muchinguri said the dentist, Walter Palmer, “had a well-orchestrated agenda which would tarnish the image of Zimbabwe and further strain the relationship between Zimbabwe and the USA”. Muchinguri said.
She called on the US to extradite Palmer who shot the prized big cat in Hwange National Park near Zambia on July 1.
The minister said the Harare authorities have started extradition proceedings and hoped the US would cooperate.
The illegal killing where a bow and arrow was used to kill the lion has been explained as a deliberate method to conceal the crime as gunshots would have alerted the local community and park rangers.
