Man United Short Stopper Agrees Terms With Real Madrid

David De Gea’s future at Manchester United continues to be a hotly debated topic, as Real Madrid are reportedly closing in on bringing the star goalkeeper back to the Spanish capital during the summer transfer window.

Alex Harris of the Daily Star has reported that De Gea has agreed a deal to join Real Madrid and become the first signing under Rafael Benitez, who is expected to be named as the new manager at the Bernabeu.

The article cited an interview with Spanish journalist Joseba Larranaga, who is quoted telling radio station COPE: “The first signing with Benitez will be De Gea. The goalkeeper has reached an agreement with Real Madrid, although it is something difficult that is Manchester United.”

Louis van Gaal last commented on De Gea’s status at the club following Manchester United’s 1-1 draw at home against Arsenal on May 17, reported by Daniel Taylor of the Guardian: “The transfer is an individual thing. He has to decide. We want him to stay.”

As for potential replacements, Mark Ogden of the Telegraph reported that manager Louis van Gaal said the club has a shortlist if De Gea departs, which includes Chelsea ‘keeper Petr Cech and Tottenham Hotspur ‘keeper Hugo Lloris.
