Critics Celebrate Omokri’s Alleged Removal On Social Media

Following the rumour that the Special Assistant to President Jonathan on New Media, Reno Omokri, had lost his job, some social media critics have come down heavily on him for the manner in which he discharged his duties in recent time.

An online medium reported on Tuesday that President Goodluck Jonathan had made some changes in his social media team, which resulted in the appointment of the organiser of the Lagos Social Media Week, Obi Asika, as the new Senior Special Assistant on New Media.
Many bloggers and social media users had then interpreted the yet-to-be announced changes to mean that Omokri had been sacked and replaced by Asika.
A social media critic, Kayode Ogundamisi, expressed shock at the SA’s habit of quoting scriptural passages to back his arguments. He urged the presidential aide to respond to the rumoured “sack” and stop quoting the Christian scriptures.
A blogger, Lukman Abiola, said he was amazed to realise that Omokri knew so much about the contents of the Holy Bible. He, however, said it was “impossible to deceive God.”
Also, noting that Omokri had been “used and dumped by his boss”, one Lawal Kamardeen said it was normal for him to evade enquiries on the state of his appointment since he had obviously fallen out of favour with the President.
But, according to Adeniyi Kolapo, a self-confessed employee of the Federal Government, Omokri’s fate was a response to the principle of fairness. The blogger said the latter’s dismissal would serve as a lesson to those who think they could retain their jobs whether they delivered or not.
