We Aim To Top Our Group – Falcons Coach

Despite being grouped in what many analysts have described as the ‘group of death’. chief coach of the senior national women’s football team, the Super Falcons Edwin Okon has boasted that the sim of his team is to come out as leaders of the group when the championship begins in Canada

Okon told Sports Vanguard in Abuja that he is not afraid of the likes of former champions, Sweden and the United States of America (USA) as well as Australia insisting that he has the crop of players that can hold their own when the chips are down.
According to him, not even the issue of unfavourable whether condition can not deter the girls because they all have what he termed as the ‘can do spirit’ of the average Nigerian.
“I am a Nigerian and Nigerians always have a way of coming out of difficult situations. Many people have been talking of the group of death but I don’t see any death for my team, we are not even talking of surviving in the group, but we are thinking of coming out tops of that group, that is our calculation”.
On how to adequately prepare the team ahead of the championship, Okon revealed that the team will have enough tune up matches including the All African Games qualifiers as well as the 2016 Olympics which will be coming up before the World Cup.
However the coach refused to talk about the players he intends to prosecute the championship with insisting that such is basically a technical issue which he will not discuss openly, even as he assured that every Nigerian will be happy with the list when it is made public.
