Speaker of the House of Representatives, Aminu Waziri Tambuwal,
yesterday embraced the challenge from over fifty of his colleagues to run for
the office of the president of the country.
Tambuwal, who was presented with the nomination forms of the All
Progressives Congress (APC) at his residence in Abuja by the leader of the
group, Hon. Peter Edeh (Ebonyi-APC), however said he would consult further on
the matter.
Among the several lawmakers that converged at the Speaker’s
residence to present the nomination form were Hon. Emmanuel Jime, (APC-Benue);
Hon. Aliyu Gebi, (APCBauchi); Hon. Rotimi Makinde, (APC-Osun); Hon. Suleiman
Yahaya Kwande, (APC-Plateau) and Hon. Kabiru Marafa, (APC-Sokoto).
Others are Hon. John Dyegh, (APC-Benue); Hon. Solomon
Olamilekan, (APC-Lagos); Hon. Babatunde Adejare, (APC-Lagos); Hon. Umar
Mohammed Bago, (Niger-APC); Hon. Sani Muhammed and others.
The Speaker who held a one-hour meeting with his colleagues,
said he was overwhelmed by the show of solidarity and confidence in him as
expressed by his colleagues from the South-East, South-West and Northern parts
of the country.
“I must say that I am moved by this show of love. This show of
commitment to the cause of oneness of Nigeria and this oneness has been shown
by my friends across the divide of this country”.
According to him, “I have not heard what you have said, I have
agreed to accept the nomination forms but I’m still consulting and will get
back to Nigerians soonest,” he said.
