63 Escape Death As Plane Crashlands In Ilorin


An Overland flight 1186, an ATR 72 aircraft with Registration number 5N-BPG from Abuja airport to Ilorin, the Kwara State capital, carrying fifty nine passengers and four crew yesterday veered off the runway at low speed after a normal landing at the Ilorin Airport.
The incident which occurred yesterday at 4.45pm according to the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) recorded no casualty as passengers on board were able to disembark safely.



Sources at the airport said one of the tyres of the plane got burst as soon as it touched ground on the tarmac.
It was gathered that the aircraft was towed from the tarmac at about 7.00pm yesterday.
Meanwhile, the Accident and Prevention Bureau (AIB) in conjunction with the NCAA has launched an investigation into the cause of the incident. The regulatory body has however used the occasion to reassure Nigerians that their safety was still paramount and cannot be compromised.
