A 32-year old mason, Terkula
Iorpuur was on Thursday remanded in prison by a Makurdi Magistrates’ Court for
allegedly raping two sisters.
Iorpuur
is charged with rape punishable under Section 284 of the Penal Code.
The
prosecutor, Insp Terzungwe Kajo, told the court that the uncle of the victims
reported the matter at ‘B’ Division Police Station, Makurdi, on 6 October.
Kajo
said the victims’ mother complained that the two children, aged eight and six
years respectively, were not walking properly.
“They
took the girls to the hospital for treatment and the doctor discovered that
someone forcefully had sex with them.
“When
questioned, the victims revealed that the accused, who was their mother’s
lover, had sex with them.”
Kajo
stated that the medical examination further revealed that the accused was HIV
positive and had been on drugs.
However,
for lack of jurisdiction, no plea was taken when the case came up for mention.
The
prosecutor said investigation into the matter was ongoing and asked the court
for another date for mention.
The
Magistrate, Mrs Lillian Tsumba, adjourned the matter till 4 December for
further mention.
