Dakolo, Others Seek Better Future For Children

Music stars, Iyanya, Timi Dakolo, Nikki Laoye and Marvelous Odiefe, recently teamed up with other well-meaning individuals to campaign for a sustainable future for children of the poor in Nigeria and other parts of the world.
At the ‘Global Day of Action: Financing Future’, recently held in Lagos, the artistes urged the Federal Government and other leaders across the world to solve the problems created by what they described as tax injustice and to crack down on tax dodgers, in addition to funding developmental programmes that focus on the less privileged.
Organised by Save The Children initiative and Action 2015, the event was attended by dignitaries and other Nigerians who were concerned about the welfare of less privileged children in the country.
Apart from thrilling the guests to their soulful songs at intervals, Timi Dakolo and Nikki Laoye took turns to address the gathering on the need to safeguard the future of children in the country.
“We need to invest in the education and well-being of the children. We have to start making plans for their future because they are the leaders of tomorrow. Also, we need to change our orientation about how we look at issues relating to children across the world. It hurts to think that children who are entitled to a brighter future are being used by insurgents in the North East to perpetrate evil acts. We have to do something to put a stop to this,” they said.
Similar campaigns were held almost simultaneously in more than 70 cities around the world where thousands of campaigners backed by some prominent leaders took to the streets to call on governments to fairly fund essential services, honour their pledges, tackle systemic inequalities and fund the next 15 years of sustainable development and long-term action on climate change.
