The senator representing Borno Central Senatorial district at the Senate, Senator Ahmed Zannah Khalifa is dead. He died yesterday following a protracted illness.
Aged 60, Sen Zannah made his first appearance at the senate after defeating the then incumbent Gov Ali Sheriff in the 2011 National Assembly poll, was re-elected for a second term in the 2015 National Assembly poll.
Born on July 25, 1955, he started a small business after his education and later became a successful entrepreneur. He was reputed to have travelled to Mecca for hajj by road in the early 70s.
His political career began in 1988 and a decade later during the regime of late General Sani Abacha, he aspired to contest for the governorship seat of Borno on the platform of UNCP. He was to later join the then newly established PDP in 1998.
Former President Olusegun Obasanjo later appointed him as a board member of the defunct National Electric Power Authority (NEPA).
After the 2007 elections, Zannah was appointed Director, North East, Rural Electrification Agency (RAE). Shortly later, he voluntarily resigned. He survived by two wives and 22 children.
