Inmate Escapes In Benin Prison

An inmate of the Benin Prisons was said to have escaped from the custody of a warder of the Nigeria Prisons Service (NPS) on Monday in Benin City. Officials of the NPS are now in search of the prisoner, who escaped while carrying out some menial work.

It was said that the inmate, along with his colleagues, were cutting grass at the Moat, behind the State Headquarters of the Nigeria Prisons Service, when he escaped. He was said to have pulled off his prison wear and ran into a nearby bush.

When newsmen contacted the Spokesman of the NPS in Benin, Mr Aminu Suleiman, he could neither confirm nor deny the information.

He said, “I am not in the office and as such, I cannot tell you if it is true or not. “I will speak with you on this after getting information on it, upon my return to the office.”
