Tragedy Hits Family As Man Kills Wife During Scuffle


A middle-aged man, Akintunde (other name withheld) has allegedly killed his wife in Abeokuta, Ogun State capital following  an irreconcilable differences between the couple.
The incident occurred  at Ijemo-Agbadu, Abeokuta South Local Government Area of the state capital.
The suspect last Thursday allegedly hit the head of his late wife, a food vendor against the wall during a quarrel.
The couple who lived in a room apartment were fond of quarreling until last Thursday when the incident happened.  The late wife fainted after her husband hit her head   against the wall.
A neighbour who spoke with Crime Watch Today on anonymity said Akintunde who had thought his wife only fainted, left her in that condition and ran away.  “He later called a brother in-law on phone to intimate him of the incident, asking him to go and pick her sister’s corpse in the house.”
While confirming the incident, the state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Muyiwa Adejobi, a Deputy Superintendent, said it was the late wife’s brother that reported the incident to the police.
“We later went  to the couple’s house where we met the corpse and later took it to the mortuary and performed  postmortem on the body.  Akintunde has been arrested.
“He is currently with the State Criminal Investigations Department (SCID),” he said.
The PPRO said  the murder suspect would be arraigned as soon as preliminary investigations were concluded.
