Boko Haram launched renewed attacks around Baga, Borno State this week, razing at least 16 towns and villages, according to a local government and a union official.
“They burnt to the ground all the 16 towns and villages including Baga, Dorn-Baga, Mile 4, Mile 3, Kauyen Kuros and Bunduram,” Musa Bukar, head of the Kukawa local government in Borno state told AFP.
The attacks which reportedly happened on Wednesday, made several people flee their homes.
Abubakar Gamandi, head of Borno’s fish traders union also confirmed the attack.
The insurgents had last Sunday attacked the army base in Baga, dislodging soldiers who fled after running out of ammunition.
Attacks by the terrorists have increased recently, as Nigeria’s general election draws near. The sect wants to establish an Islamist state in the country.
