Your Phone Can Now Help You Avoid Traffic

For most people, food clothes and shelter are most priorities of life. You worry about these things because their absence dehumanizes a being and denigrates standard living.

But for those, particularly, living in Lagos metropolis, these, are ironically, not far fetched. No matter how poor, in Lagos, one must feed. There is food for all categories of people. Problem, is when one steps off his category to where his or her earnings can not accommodate. There is also abundant clothes to cover everybody’s nakedness. No matter the income strata, Oshodi, orile and Yaba markets, can give you what to wear.

Similarly, no amount of beautification of bridges and squares in Lagos can turn those places away from being habitable homes for many people. In Lagos, there must be a place to sleep till next day.
What is apparently in short supply is good and motorable roads. On a bad day, a journey of 20 kilometers can take two days with attendant risks of robbery, car vandalisation or even loss of lives in extreme cases.
However, one good thing about technology is its wide, open ears. It listens and where such problems exist, it goes to provide succor.
Now a tech startup company based in Lagos, Panthelope Technologies, has developed a new mobile traffic solution, “Traffic Lite”, a community-based traffic application aimed at providing real-time traffic updates to the local community.

What is TrafficLite?
The app described as “contributing to the common good out there on the road. It is a community based traffic solution geared to make daily road commute a breeze.
By connecting drivers, passengers and pedestrians to one another, we help people create local driving communities that work together to improve the quality of everyone’s daily driving. That might mean helping them avoid the frustration of sitting in traffic, cluing them in on police traps or shaving five minutes off their regular commute by showing them new alternative routes they never even knew about”

How it functions
Traffic Lite features an increasing list of popular routes around Lagos. Once traffic lite has been downloaded at https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.panthelope.trafficliteapp, users simply create their profiles, log in and that’s it! By just driving or walking around with the app running passively on their mobile phones they are in possession of traffic road data. Such users can also take more active role by sharing road reports on accidents, police traps, or any other hazards along the way. This helps to give other users in the area ‘heads-up’ about what’s to come.

The app boasts of top-notch degree of accuracy of traffic reports. The report shows the actual cumulative speed on the route, actual number of road commuters present on the route, an estimated travel time, route distance and bottlenecks along the route. If incidentally, for some reasons, a user’s regular route is not listed on the popular routes, such a user can create own personal routes using the ease to use Google Map and even share with friends.
